Here are some suggestions to make Valentine’s Day for your
kids a very special day. Show them that
they are loved and that nothing in their lives escapes your attention. Every facet of their lives is your utmost
concern. Make them feel you love them
not only because of the material gifts that you can buy them (if this is in
your budget) but because of the most precious gift of time:

- Make this Valentine’s Day most memorable by starting the celebration the moment they wake up. Remember the times when you kids get “wowed” every time they receive a penny from their tooth fairy for every lost tooth? Replicate this by slipping under their pillow a Valentine card with an invitation that they be your Valentine date.
- Prepare a simple Valentine breakfast of heart-shaped pancakes dipped in strawberry red syrup.
- Since this year’s Valentine’s Day falls on a week-day, you can continue your celebration after your work and their school. Surprise then with a game of “do you remember?” But before the game, tell them the history of Valentine’s Day for added knowledge and for them to better appreciate the occasion and the time that you are taking to celebrate it with them.
Bishop Valentine, the patron saint
of love was beheaded because of his advocacy for the freedom to love and start a
family.
Now, you’ve set the mood for the
“do you remember?” game. Tell them
stories of their past. Tell them how
easy it was to make them laugh when they were babies. How mere movements of brightly colored
objects tied in their cribs made them wiggle with laughter. Tell them how they talked you into buying
toys for them, first day in school, first time they lost a tooth, etc. You will be amazed at how they will
participate in recalling the past and enjoy hearty laughs as you reminish these
events.
- End your celebration with a pizza dinner. Since it’s Valentine’s Day your pizza restaurant will surely have some Valentine tokens. If they did not plan for this, you can negotiate that they give Valentine gifts to your kidsJ. Material gifts or none, your kids will surely remember your 2013 Valentine’s Day celebration.
Celebrate Valentine’s Day with a twist – celebrate it with
your kids. Show them how much you love
them by gifting them with your time and attention.
Happy Valentine’s Day J
